33 Degrees were lucky enough to join an exclusive group at the relaunch of Richard’s Branson luxury private getaway, Makepeace Island!  We started our journey boarding the island’s private boat – taking a 10 minute ride from the Noosa jetty, winding through the breathtaking Noosa river wilderness to the island. Arriving on the island, the Balinese inspiration is immediately apparent with a huge Buddha statue surrounded by lush green gardens at the resort entrance.

The resorts stunning open plan entertaining areas feature antiques, silk furnishings and views of the spectacular private pool. The whole island is surrounded by lush palm trees and beautiful gardens creating a cocoon of nature and relaxation.  The feel of the island is one of luxury but without the pretence, the overall vibe is relaxed and comfortable, (Richard flew in his own stylist June Robinson Scott to oversee the changes).  It really strikes the perfect balance to enjoy barefoot luxury!

The four luxury villas feature Balinese inspired furniture and carvings, the main bedroom boasts a tranquil water feature cascading down to meet a pool of fish. The real Instagram worthy feature however, is the huge stunning carved volcanic boulder bath set under a glass ceiling, perfect for star gazing while you bathe.   It takes 45 mins to fill but is well worth the wait😊

Our three-course lunch was divine, prepared by local chefs in a open plan kitchen where all the cuisine is freshly sourced from local producers in the surrounding region.

Guests can have a hit of tennis on the islands courts, swim in the lagoon pool, chill out in the 15 person spa, work out in the private gym, relax on the yoga/mediation lawn or even catch a movie under the stars in the island’s very own pop up cinema!

Makepeace is immersed in nature and is home to a number of native animals including kanagroos, wallabies,  echidnas, kookaburras and a resident green tree frog who surprised us in the restaurant bathroom!

The island has already played host to A listers like Justin Bieber and Wil I Am,  but of course to holiday like a A -lister it comes with an A -list price tag of between $10,000 and $25,000 per night  (depending on the time of the year).  But for your own 10 hectres of privacy, tranquillity, exclusivity and luxury , Makepeace Island is one for the bucket list.
